Good practice examples

We welcome your examples of good practice and as ever we welcome your views on the following...

Fast food outlets

McDonalds staff have helped the Vale of Glamorgan Council in tackling fast food litter by both carrying out regular litter picks and assisting enforcement action. On witnessing litter coming from vehicles, McDonalds staff are encouraged to fill in statement books and pass on details to Council enforcement staff. With enough of a case, the Council can then gather registered keeper details from the DVLA and request information as to who was driving the car at the time. The Council has been successful in issuing FPNs from this approach.
The particular drive-thru outlet was targeted for action by the Council, having identified a litter problem and the manager of the franchise was fully supportive and welcomed action. Signage remains in place at the entrance to the car park, informing the public that they are entering a litter enforcement zone. Staff are said to be happy too, as there is less litter to collect and they feel satisfaction in taking a form of action requiring no confrontation.

Issuing FPNs to under 18s

Some local authorities have established a process for issuing Fixed Penalty Notices to under 18 year olds. Two local authorities jointly created a map to to illustrate the process followed. This can be viewed here. They also created the following document which shows their preferred means of resolving non-payment from under 18s. This can be viewed here.
