Rules are rules: if you don't pick up your cigarette butts and you're caught by an enforcement officer, you'll be given a fixed penalty notice. You can expect to fork out anything up to £100 so it's really not worth it! We ask that smokers use the many bins available across Wales to get rid of their butts, remembering to make sure the butt is fully extinguished before it is placed in the bin. Many of the bins now have a separate ashtray section on the top enabling you to stub out your butt and then place it in the bin.
It's not always easy to dispose of your butts when you're out and about but if you use a portable ashtray you'll save yourself any hassle. Keep Wales Tidy and local authorities will be distributing free Ashcans across the whole of Wales over the next few months.
