Did you know that discarded cigarette ends make up the largest proportion of Wales’s litter? Nearly 90% of the streets inspected over the past 12 months had visible evidence of smoking related litter. Smoking related litter includes cigarette packets and the associated foil and cellophane wrapping, tobacco pouches and paper, cigarette lighters, matches and match-boxes and most frequently cigarette ends.
Keep Wales Tidy is launching its biggest ever campaign against smoking related litter and we need your help! We want you to 'stub it, bin it and help Keep Wales tidy'. Over the next few months we aim to get the streets cleaner by distributing free portable ashtrays across Wales. Keep your eyes peeled and your ears open for our nationwide adverts and for information on how to get your free Ashcan. In the meantime, please spread the word! Cigarette ends on the floor do not look nice and can take up to twelve years to break down. More importantly, they are litter and if you're caught dropping one you could face a fine of up to £100!
